Life on the stage differs at its core from composing music for a film. When you come onto a stage and see the audience, and the hall, which not always can be full, you see the eyes of the audience, who came for a personal experience with you. They came because they’re curious. You can play a variety of roles… shy, or the complete opposite. Either way, the audience believes you and connects with you as a persona.
The tickets bought by the audience, and the time they’ve spent connecting with you, plays a huge role in the preparation and execution of a show. You do not want to
disappoint. However, are you bold enough while on stage to be yourself, despite what the audiences’ expectations may be. Are you bold enough not to compromise, in fear of losing the audience?
It’s important to remember that creativity shouldn’t depend on immediate success. Creativity is deep self exploration, and the interaction of all that surrounds. A single moment within a show can affect the outlook of an audience member.
So you have a perfectly rehearsed concert and impossible thought out performance on one side, on other a limitless space for a member of the audience whom you’ve never met. He or she has come for an experience. What kind of mindset will they bring to this meeting? How did this day begin for you, and them? And will you, when it’s time to perform, want to express all that you’ve so thoroughly rehearsed.
